Statement of Purpose |

The role of the Medical Coordination & Eligibility Department (MCED) is to define the policy of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center- Jeddah, as it relates to the acceptance of patients for medical care. Its mission is to ensure efficient processing of patients’ eligibility referrals, and ensure their smooth transition to the KFSH&RC-Jeddah health care system. |

Definitions |
|
4 Eligibility - the appropriateness of acceptance and retention of patients for medical care at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah.
4 Tertiary Care - management of a medical condition that requires the skills and services of physicians with subspecialty training in medicine, surgery and/or clinical fields.
4 Guarantor or Sponsor - a person from a public/private institution who agrees in writing to pay the patient’s medical expense; for example: royal order, GMC financial letter.
4 Self-Pay/Credit Patient - a patient who is personally responsible for his/her medical expense. |

4 The MCED is the sole department responsible for processing patients under royal order status and a one step access point has been established:
o Patients submit the needed documents to MCED
o Eligibility processes their papers through concerned departments
o The departments clarify medical needs accordingly
o If case is accepted for treatment, MCED opens a file and advises the patient regarding appointments and the approval period of the financial letter.
4 MCED is the sole department responsible for approving patient transfers from one specialty to another according to medical need.
4 MCED is responsible for evaluating and discharging patients from the health care system when treatment is completed, in order to facilitate acceptance of new patients.
4 MCED processes and coordinates all in/out Medivac transfers and discharges.
4 We have established direct communication with several medical committees and referring hospitals all over the western, northern and southern regions of Saudi Arabia.
4 MCED facilitates access to KFSH&RC-Jeddah by explaining policies and procedures, and distributing required information. |

The MCED has established strong communication with other hospital departments such as Finance, Admission Services, Inpatient Officer Services & Discharge Planning to improve the following services:
